The artist Patricia Jenkins, known as «Patica,» is a prominent figure in Latin American concrete art. Her work finds its primary allies in abstraction, as well as in lines and planes of colour. With a meticulously honed and rigorous technique, Patica creates a unique visual language imbued with references to Arequipa, Peru, her homeland.
Her style, deeply anchored in abstraction, unveils a subtle figuration that invites viewers to explore the sources of her inspiration and passion. The vibrant colours, the diaphanous skies, the earth, the unique light, and the inhabitants of Arequipa form the central axis of her creative universe. Patica also pays homage to the great master José Sabogal, a pioneer of indigenous art in Peru.
She reinterprets his work with a fresh, contemporary perspective that breathes new life into her cultural heritage.

«The colours remind me so much of my childhood in Arequipa—yellow like the sun of my homeland, red like stuffed rocoto peppers, blue like the sky, and orange and fuchsia like the polleras I wore dancing huayno.”
